The kitchen is probably the space needing the most innovation and reinvention. There is plenty of space, but it is quite separated from the rest of the house. Even though it shares air space with the family room/living room, and is next to the entry and dining room, the different levels and doorways all work towards making the kitchen somewhat isolated. Kitchens have definitely changed in how they are used in the last 50 years! That being said, the kitchen had to have been beyond cool when it was first created. There is an in-wall can opener, an indoor grill, a built in blender base thingie, roll out islands, a warming drawer, and many other little wonders. At this point I have no idea what the final outcome will be...it needs some thought put into it.
This picture gives a good overview of the layout. Taken from the doorway of the laundry room, the doorway straight ahead leads to the dining room, the door straight ahead but to the left--on the other side of the island/peninsula leads to the entry way. On the left you can see a bit of the family room's airspace: it's floor space is located a half-level lower than the kitchen and is accessed from either the entry or the stairs that are not-quite-noticeable in the foreground of the picture. Also in the foreground there is a desk space on the right and a breakfast area on the left.
All right, so as I'm posting pictures I'm realizing that they aren't quite capturing the kitchen. I suppose a little imagination is in order. I'll add a couple more pictures and hope for clarification rather than confusion.
