Weeks 16-19: Basement Walls

After making some last minute changes to the sizes of some of the windows in the basement, (at the request of the contractor, in order to make the installation and final result a bit more simple,) the wall form is really starting to take shape.

In the weeks since the last set of photos, the footings have been poured, closing some of those gaping holes around the edges and allowing the walls to be poured next.  Since the house is a split level house, the basement will be a full level below the dining room and kitchen, yet only a half flight of stairs from the lower entry.  I think this will make it feel much more connected and accesible.

Spring at the job site.
Those walls hanging midair used to frame in the kitchen, with the
dining room beyond.  If you are familiar with the house before construction,
this gives a good representation of how big the basement will be.
This smaller area of the basement will be the
mechanical room for furnaces and the like.  This
is located under the front patio (near the trash
can area.)
This is the view from the location of the future stairs down to the basement.
You can see that the window spacers have been framed in to allow for
properly sized gaps in the final wall.

The redbuds are blooming - it is springtime indeed!
Looks like some of the plants don't realize they've been tossed in rubbish heap.
They just keep growing...and growing...
